Across the Formation Program in Week 3

The Formation Program is a holistic education approach that contributes to forming young men at St Edmund’s College. It focuses on knowing and understanding self, values, strengths, and worldview whilst also aiming to provide scope for healthy relationships in this community, with God, and with others.

Last week during the Formation Program the students in Years 7, 9, 10, 11 and 12 developed an understanding of conscience and considered the decision-making processes.

An important part of decision making is considering how our decisions have an impact on others while also being aware of how others influence our decisions. We make the choice to build relationships that are positive and meaningful or those that are negative and destructive. The students familiarised themselves with the decision making process and how to apply it to various scenarios.

The Year 8 students had guest speaker Michael Aichholzer from Menslink. Michael is a highly experienced public speaker, leader and facilitator. He is a combat veteran with over 35 years of service in the Royal Australian Navy and brings a wealth of life experience to the sessions he conducts.

Michael presented to Year 8 about ‘Positive Masculinity’ and the need to question how men are being portrayed in society and some of the stereotyping that can occur. He spoke to our boys about identifying what positive masculinity really looks like and how each and every man has the capability to make good decisions each day. One key aspect that he spoke about was that it is important not to judge each other or yourself as this can lead to destructive behaviours and thinking.
