Canvas and Library Resources Training and Cyber Safety

Canvas and Library Resources Training

The College will be running training sessions for parents who are keen to learn more about Canvas, the school’s Learning Management System and how you can use the resources available through the Library page on Canvas to support your son in the completion of research-based assessment tasks.

Canvas training for parents will be held in the College Library at the following times:

  • Tuesday 27 Feb – 5:30 to 6:30.
  • Thursday 1 March – 5:30 to 6:30.

Please email mmaher@stedmunds.act.edu.au if you would like to attend one of these sessions.

Cyber safety

Many parents would have been deeply disturbed by the news that police will start teaching online safety to kindergarten children after it emerged that children as young as four have posted explicit images of themselves on the web. The article that appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald on 6 Feb 2018, highlighted how important it is that parents be more aware of online dangers. This is obviously easier said than done but there are a lot of resources that parents can access to help them monitor the online activity of their children. Two very useful resources for parents are:

iParent – https://www.esafety.gov.au/education-resources/iparent

ThinkUKnow : https://www.thinkuknow.org.au/parents-portal

We are very mindful that while advances in technology have created opportunities to engage students in the classroom in new and exciting ways, they also present significant challenges. In order to help address these challenges, students in the Junior School are introduced to issues relating to cyber safety through the ICT Curriculum, while keeping safe online is a major focus of the Year 7 Digital Technologies unit and a key component of the College’s Pastoral Care program.
