Captain’s Corner

Week Three was another busy week at the College with a number of important celebrations.

On Wednesday we celebrated the feast day of Blessed Edmund Rice with our Founder’s Day Mass. A day that all Catholic schools built in the Edmund Rice tradition across Australia celebrate annually in remembrance of Blessed Edmund Rice. Traditionally, the mass is followed by a barbeque lunch and inter-house sports afternoon for all students, but this year the afternoon was unfortunately postponed due to the miserable wet weather conditions.

On Friday the College celebrated its Mother’s Day Mass. This mass is an opportunity for sons to celebrate the importance of mothers and grandmothers in the life of a young man. Few eyes were left dry by the conclusion of the touching ceremony. This year’s Mother’s Day mass was the highest attendance that the College has seen for a number of years. Following the mass a number of mothers and grandmothers also attended the morning tea held in the Edmund Rice Centre, with exceptional catering by the College hospitality classes.

On Saturday, we saw the second round of winter sports commence, with many rugby and soccer games being played at the College. The First XV recorded a convincing 99-0 win over Goulburn Rugby Club’s First XV, continuing their strong start to the season. The First XI lost 3-5 to Majura FC, even with striker Liam McCallion scoring a hat trick, due to excellent support from the rest of the team. In basketball the First V won a close game 39-32 against cross town rivals Marist College.

After the celebrations of last week this week the focus moves to a number of assessments. Coming towards the end of Semester One students will no doubt be busy completing assignments and studying for exams. I especially wish all the boys good luck in Years 5, 7 and 9, participating in the NAPLAN assessments. Do your best lads!
