Captain’s Corner

Week four was yet another productive week for the boys in the classrooms and various victories on the sports field were celebrated.

During the start of the week, high-school and senior school students had various critical midterm assessments due. Later in the week, students from years 5, 7 and 9 took part in NAPLAN testing. This testing like all testing provides an opportunity to test our wares and look for areas of growth.

On Thursday, the Student Leadership Team assembled to converse about various fundraising events for the school. Certain ideas were brought up including a sports day and a market day, yet the exact event is yet to be decided. These events are held to generate much needed funds for charities of the college including, HOME, Karinya House and Caritas which assist those who are less fortunate than us. These help us to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ and Blessed Edmund Rice, we encourage the boys to aspire to ‘give generously without counting the cost’.

On the weekend, the boys in blue and white celebrated various victories on the rugby field, most notably the First XV side winning a closely contested game against Grammar (38 – 10) on their home soil followed by the Seconds XV side (15 – 12). All boys of the college can learn a thing or two from these victories, to adapt to certain challenges in order to overcome them. As a wise man once said, “Tough times never last, but tough people do”.

Looking forward to next week, for the boys participating in the cross country, the college captains and myself wish you call the best of luck. I would like to conclude by encouraging Eddies boys to strive to achieve their best in whatever area of school life they enjoy, be it sports, academics, music or any other curricular activities. We all have different capabilities and talents, some unrecognized. We just have to know how to bring it out of ourselves and others. We can move mountains when we come together and walk as one with Christ as our light. Edmunds to the fore!
