Keep the Same Energy!

To the students, parents, and members of our wider community.

After a long and well-deserved break from assessments, week four marks the beginning of assignments in semester two. With these academic challenges ahead, it is imperative for students to get an effective start on assignments, and not let the due date, which may seem a while away, creep up on them. Mr Burke has told his year 12 English class to act as if the draft due date is the final due date; therefore, students have a full week to finalise their work maximising their final result. This technique also gives students more time to complete other outstanding tasks.

The “Keep The Same Energy!” title refers to the effort and dedication put into academic studies in semester one, which must be carried through to the second semester. A common mistake students make is not being able to return to an efficient study routine after a long break.

Although the wet weather affected a lot of junior sports around Canberra due to the ovals being closed, the college’s rugby teams were lucky enough to be able to play. Despite the miserable conditions the teams from Canberra Grammar travelled over and created some healthy competition. Our first XV came away with a hard-fought victory with a score line of 48-10.

Last Friday the college’s extremely gifted young mathematicians took part in the Australian Mathematics Competition. This is a challenging 30-problem competition that demonstrates the significance and relevance of mathematics in students’ everyday lives. The students which have taken part in this competition thoroughly enjoy the challenge that it presents.

After a strong contribution to Karinya house home in Queanbeyan last week through the heritage round weekend. Our charity focus continues with the sleep-out on the 16th of September, and our weekly Marymead activity evenings which occur every Friday from 5 to 6. I encourage all boys to try and take part in both of these initiatives.

Most importantly, I hope everyone stays safe and through this time of academic stress remember to take healthy study breaks to keep your mind fresh and on task.

Edmunds to the fore,
