Captains Corner – Back to Online Schooling

I hope that all members of our community had a safe and enjoyable break over the past 2 weeks, and that you are looking forward to getting back into the swing of things. Over the break, we celebrated two significant events that hold particular significance in Australia and at Eddies. The first being Easter just after the conclusion of Term 1. While for most families, Easter is usually a time for family to come together, this year we were limited in what we could do. In relation to school, we were unable to have our annual Easter liturgy, but we had a fitting substitute through the virtual liturgy created by staff from the RE department, and students from both senior school and junior school. The second event, ANZAC day which is particularly significant for Eddies because we are a war memorial school, was on Saturday. Similarly, to the Easter Liturgy, the school made a virtual service to remember and commemorate the ANZAC’s. The service was another fitting substitute and a great example of how the school is remembering what is important and recognising it during such a dark period.

Now that we are back to school, our focus has quickly changed back to our online schooling. With that in mind, we are remaining confident that our short tenure of online schooling will be over soon. With every day that passes, it seems like there is movement in the right direction and some sources believe that it may be a matter of weeks until we are back. It’s important that we understand that the situation can change quickly and because of this, we have to remain patient. Even though we could be back at school very soon, our teachers have been working very hard over the holidays to make sure that we continue with our academic progress online. Adjustments have been made to improve our learning even further, so to the teachers, your hard work definitely doesn’t go unnoticed and while we might not show it, we are definitely very grateful for the work you have been doing.

While it’s hard to write about life at school when we aren’t at school, I hope that everyone has enjoyed the recent Vortex articles but also understood the difficulty involved with writing the article recently. The aim of this part of the Vortex is to inform all members of the College community on what has been happening around the school but with a spin from students themselves. We have been unable to do this to the best of our ability because we aren’t at school. Our College Leaders look forward to the time when we can go back to school and share all the wonderful things that will be happening.
