Captains Corner – Busy times

The past week at the school has been packed with excitement and anticipation, with events in sport occurring over the weekend, Year 12’s getting one step closer to finishing and new boys coming to experience the school.

The Year 12’s completed their AST testing on Wednesday last week and this is one step closer to tertiary students being accepted into universities. The boy worked tirelessly for the two days and will no doubt be rewarded, in the coming months.

On Friday Brother Bob Wallace and Mr. Michael Maloney stopped by to talk to the Year 12’s about life after school and to give some wisdom to the boys, as well as tell some stories about the school from their time teaching. A massive thank you goes to Brother Bob and Mr. Moloney for coming in and talking to the boys who took a lot from this experience.

On this same day the Year 9 students were given a seminar by Brett Saunders who has been coming to the school for number of years now and gives some great speeches which have helped myself and many other boys.

While this was happening, the Junior school were sharing their electronic toy projects, which the boys have worked hard on and had them showing knowledge in circuits and toy development.

On Saturday the St Edmund’s verse Marist rugby gala day was held at Marist College, with great rugby being played all day by the two schools. The day was a great success, and this was down to boys and their parents abiding by the Covid restrictions in place that allowed the games to go ahead. Great sportsmanship was shown all day by the boys and the support was good for all ages and teams.

The First XV finished the day with win in a high scoring match in a top of the table clash, the game was fast, and physical which it was reflected by the scoreboard. Some of the boys had to support from outside the fence due to restrictions but they were still loud in voice, I would like to thank the supporters for abiding by the rules to allow the game to be played.

The First XV were privileged to be spoken to after the game by a former head coach Brother Bob Wallace, who gave some wisdom to them for the rest of the season.

To start the week is the Experience Eddie’s Day, where boys looking to come to the school and experience what a day at the school would be like, getting involved with boys already at the school.

Hope all the fathers and grandfathers had a great day Sunday and hope everyone has a good week.
