Careers / VET Update

It has been a very busy start to the year in the Careers/ VET office. We already have 17 boys who have signed up with employers to start their Australian School Based Apprenticeships (ASBA’s), as well as a number of boys who have completed Work Experience and have received glowing reviews from their placement employers. With Canberra in the middle of a building boom there is no shortage of employers contacting me looking for eager apprentices and the future opportunities in construction are only going to grow exponentially.

Year 12 Tertiary students should be keeping an eye out for their UAC pins which will be emailed to their school email address on 3rd April as applications for University for 2020 open early this year. A number of our Year 12 students attended an information session for ANU where they were invited to apply for the new ANU Admissions process which has already opened. Tertiary students intending to go to Uni next year should start researching the courses that they are interested in and comparing university entrance requirements, scholarship opportunities and accommodation costs. UAC Guides will be delivered to school next week to assist with this process.

Students and parents are encouraged to use the school’s career website www.seccareers.com.au which has a large amount of information regarding careers, tertiary study, and a wide range of other useful information for students and parents. Everyone should also follow the Facebook page ‘Careers- St Edmund’s College’ for up to the minute information as I post apprenticeship vacancies, University information and opportunities for students weekly.
