Captain’s Corner

CHAMPIONSHIP MINUTES

The title of my last ever Captains Corner is ‘Championship Minutes’. This is a term used most often in sports at the very end of matches when your mental toughness is put to the test. We are in our last few weeks of school and for our Year 12’s it will be their final ever term at the College. The easy thing to do would be to get complacent on these last few weeks of school and not commit fully to upcoming exams, assignments and classes. This would be to rely on luck and talent to get yourself through the end of year assessments. How you handle the end of the 2022 year whether it be your presence around the College, your participation in class, your willingness to donate to our Christmas hampers or how you finish off your exams, speaks volumes of someone’s character and the values of hard work and commitment we as Eddie’s boys aim to embody. So, my challenge and question to all of my fellow students is how will you spend your ‘championship minutes’? I challenge all students to finish off the year in the same or an even better fashion than you started it and work super hard to make the end of the year championship worthy.

With the end of the school year approaching it serves as a good time to reflect upon the year that was. It’s crazy to think we started the year separated with COVID restrictions still about. Throughout it all this year has been one of the best years I’ve had whilst at the college. It’s been a year of uncertainty, incredible joy and even disappointment but the one thing that remains constant is St Edmunds College and the incredible culture and brotherhood that I have felt through and the boys have felt through all the ups and downs. Throughout this article I have spoken about the importance of not getting complacent, but I would also like to talk about the importance of enjoying the last few weeks of term 4. For our Year 12’s these last few weeks could be the most memorable of your lives if you take the time to enjoy the week and reflect upon your time at Eddie’s.

Lastly, I would like to finish by saying what an enormous privilege it was to be College Captain for this past year. I certainly learnt valuable lessons and I am certain the College is in good hands with Deveraux Tapelu at the realm next year. Thank you to the Year 12 leadership team, the students and all of the staff for making 2022 such a memorable year. And remember to spend your ‘championship minutes’ with no regrets.

Edmunds to the fore
