A Reflection on Inclusion, Tolerance, and Acceptance
During Week 7, our school embraced the values of Harmony Week, reinforcing the importance of inclusivity, tolerance, and acceptance. Through meaningful activities in our Personal Formation classes, students explored the challenges faced by refugees and migrants, developing a deeper understanding of gratitude and the significance of a welcoming community.
Students engaged in a powerful lesson that encouraged them to reflect on what truly matters in life. By imagining a world where they had lost everything familiar and had to start anew in another country, they gained insight into the struggles many refugees face. Through discussions and personal reflections, they identified the importance of belonging, basic rights, and community support.
As a commitment to promoting harmony, the students of year 7 wrote personal pledges on orange hands, symbolising their dedication to ending racism and discrimination. These hands were then collected to create a Wall of Hands, a visual representation of our school’s shared commitment to inclusivity.
To culminate the week, Friday was a vibrant celebration where students and staff proudly wore cultural attire or orange—the colour of Harmony. The school grounds came alive with food stalls featuring diverse cuisines, and a big thank-you goes to our Year 10 students for their generous donation of soft drinks, making the popular ‘Spider’ stall a success!
Harmony week serves as a reminder that everyone belongs, and we are proud of our school community for embracing diversity and fostering an inclusive environment for all.
