College Captain Article

I would like to welcome back Mr Zavone, staff, students and the St Edmunds Community to a New School Year. The New Year sees the Year 4s, Year 7s, and new students begin a new stage in their schooling journey, and returning students continue in their schooling and work hard to meet personal goals.

As we kick off into the new year, I encourage all our students to think about how they are going to re-engage with the school. This could be achieved by adhering to our Statement of Eddies Pride, which consistently encourages us to achieve our personal best, show resilience when things get tough and engage in all aspects of school. We nurture respectful and positive relationships with everyone in our college and the wider community. We contribute to a constructive learning environment and meet college expectations. We honour our College name, reputation, and facilities and reflect the college motto – Christus Lux Mea (Christ is my light), in all that we do and speak. These statements are not just to be upheld within the classrooms but also in our extra-curricular activities students undertake such as the performing arts and sports, as well as whenever we are out and about in public.

Here at St Edmunds College, we are proud of the strong and enduring brotherhood. Simply put, the brotherhood means, no student will ever walk alone. We have all joined a community that supports and respects each other. We do not just rally behind our mates, but we uplift and strengthen each and every one of our brothers.

As the steward for the College Touchstone of Inclusive community, I am responsible for encouraging, leading, and embodying the spirit of St Edmunds that encourages boys to be accepting and respectful of others. This year the College’s spiritual theme is centred on the scriptural passage of “Everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. Everyone who knocks, the door will be opened” Luke 11:9 – 10. ” In living by this Gospel message, we aim to welcome and include everyone into our community and empower those around us to do the same.
