Father/Parent & Son Weekend Recap

What an unforgettable weekend down at The Pines, our College’s dedicated retreat centre in beautiful Tuross Head, NSW! The Father/Parent & Son Camp, led by Mr Kelly, brought together fathers and sons for a weekend filled with adventure, connection, and plenty of fun under the sun.

We were blessed with fantastic weather, making it the perfect backdrop for all the activities we had planned. There was a great mix of time spent as a group, as well as quality moments shared between each father and son/s combination.

Camp Highlights:

Dads v Sons Touch Football Match – The competition was fierce, but the camaraderie and laughs made it a truly memorable match!
Fishing Success – One lucky son caught his very first fish – a big moment to remember!
Getting to Know One Another – It was wonderful to see everyone bonding and getting to know each other in a relaxed setting. ‍‍
Table Tennis Tournaments – The table tennis battles kept everyone on their toes and sparked some friendly competition!
Father-Son Relationships – We took time to reflect on the importance of these connections and how we can nurture them, building stronger, more meaningful relationships.

It was a fantastic opportunity for everyone to reflect on how we can be better fathers and role models.

Top 10 Tips for Dads from The Fathering Project:

  1. Be Present – Quality time is about being there, fully engaged.
  2. Lead by Example – Your actions speak louder than words.
  3. Show Affection – A hug, holding hands, or a pat on the back can mean the world.
  4. Get Involved – Whether it’s sports, hobbies, or school activities, your involvement matters.
  5. Have Fun Together – Laughter is key to building strong bonds.
  6. Encourage Independence – Support your son’s growth by letting him try new things.
  7. Listen More Than You Speak – Sometimes, all they need is someone to listen.
  8. Be Consistent – Establish routines and stick to them, providing stability.
  9. Teach Life Skills – Sharing your knowledge helps them grow into confident individuals.
  10. Make Time for 1-on-1 – Quality time, just the two of you, goes a long way.

It was a weekend full of memories, and we cannot wait to do it all again later in the year in October with some other Eddies Father/Parent & Son combinations! Until then, let’s continue nurturing these important father/parent-son relationships. ‍
