Celebrating Founder’s Day – Honouring the Spirit of Blessed Edmund Rice
On Friday 16th May, our College community will come together to celebrate Founder’s Day, a significant and formal occasion that honours the life, faith, and mission of Blessed Edmund Rice. Although the official feast day falls on 5th May, we look forward to marking the day in a spirit of unity, reflection, and joyful celebration later this month.
Our day will begin with a whole-school Mass, where we will give thanks for the legacy of Edmund Rice and his unwavering commitment to faith, justice, and education. During the celebration of the Eucharist, we will also recognise and honour individuals in our community who embody Edmund’s values through the presentation of the Br Matt McKeon Faith and Service Awards.
Following Mass, students will engage in house-based activities designed to build community spirit and encourage participation. A highlight of the day will be the fundraising stalls run by our Year 9 World of Money classes, showcasing their creativity and enterprise. Funds raised will go towards an exciting new project: the development of a new BBQ area for the school community.
Founder’s Day is a time to pause and reflect on the example of Blessed Edmund Rice—a man who responded to the needs of his time with courage, compassion, and action. As we celebrate his legacy, may we continue to be inspired by his vision and strive to bring hope and justice to the world.
