Mother’s Day is indeed a special occasion to honour and show appreciation for the important role these women play in our lives. I hope that everyone had a wonderful time celebrating their mothers/significant females and making them feel loved and cherished over the weekend. We were fortunate to have a beautiful day for our Mother’s Day Mass and Morning Tea on Friday and it was once again a brilliant community event. Thank you to Ms Bridget Cusack and all the staff who helped make the occasion such a success. Also, a huge thanks to Pam Knight and the canteen staff for their efforts in preparing the morning tea.
Junior School Assembly – This Friday at 11.30am in the Hall we will celebrate students who have been performing well in class and our age champions for swimming, cross country and athletics. We will also celebrate Billy Unsworth’s (5 White) win in this year’s edition of the Balloon Car Championship. Parents/carers of award winners have been emailed and are welcome to attend this assembly.

Year 6 into Year 7 Enrolment – All current Year 6 families are reminded that there is no need to re-enrol your son into Year 7 at St Edmund’s College. The enrolment for Year 7 is automatic as your son is already enrolled at the College.
12/U ACT Swimming Championships. Well done to Owen Edwards, Oliver Winn, and Andre Susic, who all gave a wonderful account of themselves at the very competitive ACT Championships. A special mention to Owen who is now the ACT Champion for 50m Breaststroke in the 10/U age group.
ACT Oz-Tag Gala Day (South). Congratulations to the boys who attended this gala day and to Ms Manenica for organising. By all reports our students were terrific representatives of the school during the day. Our Year 5/6 team ended the day Runner’s Up, and our Year 4 team were crowned the champions. I would like to highlight a social media post from a parent from another school on ACT Oz-Tag’s Facebook page that captures everything we are trying to instil in these young men. Well done Year 4, you make us all very proud.

Matt Giteau Cup (Rugby Union) – Thursday 18 May at David Campese Oval. Information for selected students is available through the parent portal and parents/carers should have received a notification last week. Students have to make their own way to and from the carnival. Supervision will be from 8.45am – 2.00pm (although some teams may have a game after 2.00pm).
South/Weston Cross Country – Tuesday 6 June at Stromlo. Information for this excursion will be available on the parent portal for parents/carers of students who have been selected. Congratulations to these boys.

School Sport ACT Representative 12/U Opportunities – School Sport ACT has changed the process for applying and participating in Sporting Trials.
Anyone interested in trialling for the various regional sports, now need to log onto the ACT Sports Website and register for the sport that your child wishes to trial. It is the responsibility of parents/carers to monitor the website for any upcoming sporting events, if your child is interested in competing in the regional competitions.
Please also note if your child is successful in being selected for an ACT team to participate in a national or regional tournament, a formal written letter is required, addressed to the College Principal to seek permission for absence from school during this period. Once the College has received such a request it can then be formally approved for your son’s participation in this activity with School Sport ACT. Secondly, we will also be able to acknowledge his achievement here at school.

Year 6 Runners Program – As a part of our Year 6 into High School transition program, we will be enlisting the assistance of Year 6 students to help as runners. As runners, the students will get to know the school layout very well ahead of Year 7. The students will work in pairs for a full day (learning remotely between jobs). The students will rotate through on a daily basis.
Hair Policy – Thank you to all parents/carers for keeping your son/s haircuts in line with the school’s uniform and hair policy. At times barbers may make mistakes. If they are informed of their mistake, many will fix the haircut (in line with our policy) at no extra charge. Could I please ask that all parents/carers familiarise themselves with the hair policy so that students can get about their daily work without teacher’s asking them about their haircuts. Thank you for your assistance with this.
Hair should be kept neat, tidy and clean at all times and not grown or styled into an extreme or exaggerated fashion.
Hair should be above the shoulder in length (above the bottom of the school shirt collar) and no shorter than a number ‘two’.
Students are not allowed to have lines or designs shaved into their hair nor grow long sections of hair that can be fashioned into ‘top buns’, plaits, undercuts, braids, ‘rats tails’, ‘mohawks’ or ‘mullets’ etc.
Student Drop Off and Pick Up – Please do not use the staff carpark (off Canberra Avenue) to drop or collect students before and after school. This is a dangerous place for our students to be moving through and we would like to keep this area for staff only. Thank you for helping to keep our community safe.
