Junior School News: Term 4, Week 8, 2022

This will be the final edition of Junior School News for 2022. It has been a very challenging but rewarding year in Junior School and we have seen so much growth in our students. It was nice to have a slightly more ‘normal’ school year than the past few. Despite the Covid-19 landscape changing and somewhat easing, schools around Australia did encounter difficulties with staff availability and the ongoing ramification of Covid-19 for students and their families. St Edmund’s was also impacted and I would like to thank all of our Junior School class teachers and specialists who have continued their commitment to our students’ education. Our Junior School staff really are outstanding teachers of boys, and this has really shone brightly in 2022. Next year we will move to a third class of Year 5, so we will have two Year 4 classes, three Year 5 classes and three Year 6 classes. In 2023, we welcome back Mrs Holly Ellem from maternity leave. Class allocations will be emailed to parents/carers in January. Please note that teachers and I spend a great deal of time on class allocations, considering friendships, who works well with who, and academic and pastoral considerations. I would like to take this opportunity to wish our community well during the summer holidays. May your break be one of rest, connection, and recovery from a big 2022.

Junior School Activity Day (Big Splash), Thursday 1 December. Just a reminder this excursion is taking place. Your son may wear casual clothes on the day. The canteen will be cashless.

The Junior School Presentation Ceremony – Tuesday 6 December at 9.15am – 10.30am in the Hall – Parents/carers of award winners have been notified via email last week. All Year 6 students will receive a certificate to acknowledge their completion of Junior School studies. Parents/carers of award winners and Year 6 students are most welcome to attend and see the last formal Junior School gathering for our Year 6 students. If you would like to take your son out for lunch afterwards, please inform your son’s class teacher.

Year 6 2023 – Parents/carers are reminded our school BYOD program begins in Year 6. Technical specifications are listed on the school website: BYOD Program (sec.act.edu.au)
