Junior School News: Week 1, Term 4, 2020

Welcome back to Term 4. It was great to see many of you at our parent/teacher evening last night. We really value the importance of working with parents/carers in educating students at St Edmund’s. Offering four formal opportunities annually for you to meet with your son’s teacher and discuss targets for academic progress helps us to consolidate these important relationships. Term 4 is always a terrific time in Junior School. Although it comes and goes incredibly fast, with so many events it will have our students and staff engaged to the very end. Although this year’s events may be scaled down or altered in some way we look forward to the final building blocks to be put in place for our Year 6 cohort as they ready themselves for transition into Year 7. Mr Langtry, the Heads of Houses and the Year 6 teachers have been working on different aspects of the transition program and I am confident these young men will be well and truly ready for the different demands of student life in Year 7. Year 6 parents and carers will receive information regarding transition events early this term.

Book Week – Please note that Book Week will occur at St Edmund’s during Week 2, Term 4. Our parade will occur on the morning of Thursday 22 October. Unfortunately due to the School Musical, we will not have access to the Hall. This will mean we won’t have a space large enough to invite parents and guests. So sadly, it will be a student only event this year. Students who have impressed with their costumes will go into raffles for various prizes. We will also present awards for the Principal’s Reading Challenge, which ends on Friday 16 October.

Theme: Curious Creatures, Wild Minds (or just favourite book character)

Dates: Term 4: October 17-23 with our parade day on Thursday 22 October

Shell Questacon Science Circus on Wednesday 21 October – Please note that on this day each year level will be participating in a Science performance from Questacon.

Thursday/Friday 5/6 November – Year 4 Camp alternate program. Your son’s teacher will provide more information on our alternate program for these dates. Students will be able to come to school in mufti clothes both days. There will be no charge for this program.
