Junior School News: Week 2, Term 2, 2020

Founder’s Day – It was great to see a variety of acts of service that were completed by our students on Tuesday to help celebrate Founder’s Day remotely. Special mention goes to Tony Di Fronzo and Julia Roche for their staff service awards. Thank you to both Tony and Julia for all of the experience and dedication they bring to their roles on a daily basis. I hope that you have had the opportunity to view the online liturgy for Founder’s Day via Facebook and/or Canvas.

Mother’s Day – Thank you to Miss Cusack, Mrs Wilson and Mr Monagle for putting together a brilliant online media item to help us celebrate Mother’s Day this Sunday. Usually Mother’s Day is a huge celebration here at St Edmund’s so we miss the opportunity to meet in person. However, please see social media channels this Sunday for a glimpse into past celebrations and also some brilliant singing by Sonny Lauvao and his mother, Charlotte.

Return to face-to-face teaching – Junior School students will return to face-to-face teaching from Monday 18 May (Week 4). This has been a trying time for all in our community and we are very grateful for a return to some form of normality. I will just make a couple of points in relation to our pivot back to face-to-face teaching.

  • Co-curricular activities will not be running until further notice. Please wait for contact from your son’s activity coordinator. The only exception to this is homework club which will run Tuesdays and Wednesdays from Week 5 in the Junior School library (3.30-4.30pm). This club is by appointment only by emailing with a day’s notice: dkelly@stedmunds.act.edu.au
  • Teachers in Junior School will not be providing two modes of teaching from Monday 18 May. We understand that some families will opt to keep their son/s home from this date for a variety of reasons. Please note that online teaching and learning will not continue in its current form from this date. In this instance your son’s teacher will communicate the work that is being completed in class but will not be teaching your son remotely. If you are considering keeping your son at home please contact us as soon as possible.

Thanks to everyone for your support during this time and we eagerly await the return of students.
