Junior School News: Week 4, Term 1, 2018

This week Year 6 students enjoyed three days at Tuross Heads for their camp. The weather cleared and the boys were able to enjoy the beach and Mogo Zoo. A big thank you must go to the staff members who accompanied the students (Mrs Owens, Ms Roche, Mr Roberts and Mr Pilkinton) and also to our wonderful parent volunteers (Hugh, Louise, Madeleine, and Mel). Without the support of these people, we would not be able to run a successful camp so thank you once again.

It was awesome to have Jack Wighton and Joseph Tapine from the Canberra Raiders here with us last week to present the NRL’s RESPECT program. We look forward to sending a Year 4 and Year 6 team to compete the upcoming Rugby League Challenge Cup.

Boys with Books Breakfast

We will be launching our book fair with a breakfast/reading opportunity for parents/carers and their son/s on the morning of Wednesday, March 14 at 8am in the Junior School Library. Please come along and share in the joy of reading with your son. This invite is open to all parents/carers. We especially encourage as many Dads or other significant male role models to attend as possible. Having male role models showing an interest in reading with young men can have a profound and lasting impact and challenge certain stereotypes associated with reading. To assist us with catering, please email morourke@stedmunds.act.edu.au with numbers of people attending.

Junior School Swimming Carnival – Friday 9 March at Queanbeyan Pool

Please note that the program with approximate event times can be viewed on Canvas.

Matt Giteau Cup – Friday 16 March

Please note the school is planning to take two teams to this event. Mr Fox will be holding trials at school during break times next week. Students will be notified and reminded at morning assemblies. One Year 4 team and one combined Year 5/6 team will be selected.
