Junior School News: Week 4, Term 1, 2021

Yesterday we celebrated our Opening School Mass as a whole school. It was terrific to celebrate Mass together and see our Junior School and Senior School leaders receive their badges and stoles from loved ones. Thank you to Mr Monagle and Ms Cusack for their organisation of this special event.

Our Year 6 students head off to camp this week and we hope the weather is kind down at Tuross Head. We look forward to hearing all about it upon their return.

PE & Sport News
A reminder that our first carnival of the year is the Swimming Carnival at Queanbeyan on Friday 5 March. All entries have been collated by Mr Fox. Just a reminder that Day 10 in the timetable is set aside for an extra sports lesson. Your son should wear his PE gear to and from school every Day 10.

Anaphylaxis
Please note that we have a number of students who can have life threatening reactions to contact with various nuts and also goats’ cheese. We would ask that you refrain from sending nuts of any kind in lunch boxes. We understand that nuts are nutritious and delicious but for the safety of our community we would ask these be saved for outside school hours.

2020 Sacraments
Parents and Carers will soon receive a letter from Ms Cusack regarding parish-based sacramental programs. As St Edmund’s is not a parish-based school, all sacraments are completed at your local parish. Your local parish should already have a timeline of events published for each sacrament.

Friday 26 February – Haydon Day.
On this day students in Haydon House may attend school in mufti clothes (neat, casual). They will have a bbq lunch and drink provided. An email will come home with details. Please email jchalker@stedmunds.act.edu.au if your son has dietary requirements.

Tuesday 2 March – Moderation Day (Pupil Free Day for Years 4-12).
Please note that teaching staff will have professional learning on this day in areas of online learning and using data to set individual literacy and numeracy targets for your son.

Friday 5 March
Junior School Swimming Carnival @ Queanbeyan. Information notes will be coming out this week and must be returned by the due date on the note. Please be mindful this is a swimming carnival so accurate indications of swimming ability are vital. Please click here for a copy of the information and permission form. Please click here for the program (indicative times only).

Thursday 11 March – Junior School Assembly.
Please note we will hold an academic assembly on this date. Parents/carers of award winners will be notified approximately a week prior and are welcome to attend.

Year 4-6 after school homework assistance
Tuesday & Wednesday after school
3.30pm – 4.30pm
Junior School Library lab
Boys are to bring work with them what they may need assistance with. This could be homework, assignments, extension work or additional work set by their classroom teacher.
Email hellem@stedmunds.act.edu.au with one day’s notice should you wish your son to attend.

Athletics Carnival Date Change
Please note we have changed the date of our Junior School Athletics Carnival (now one day earlier 24 March) to cater for the students who qualify for the South Weston Swimming Carnival (25 March). This change is now reflected in the school calendar online. Students will be participating in trials during PE classes for Long Jump, discus and shot put over the coming weeks.
