Junior School News: Week 5, Term 1, 2021

After being back at school now for four weeks, students should be getting used to set routines and timetables. It is helpful if parents/carers can sight the diary each night and work with their son to help them plan upcoming homework or assignment tasks. A reminder that homework club runs each Tuesday and Wednesday with Mrs Holly Ellem in the Junior School library from 3.30pm-4.30pm. Bookings can be made by emailing hellem@stedmunds.act.edu.au. We had our Ash Wednesday Liturgy last week and it was good to discuss things we could take on or give up for Lent. Thank you to Ms Cusack and her liturgy assistants for this service. We also enjoyed a beautiful opening school Mass in our College Hall last week. We are entering a time of the term where we will have regular significant events. I have outlined a few of them below.

Year 6 Camp – Thank you to Mrs Ellem, Mr O’Rourke and Ms Roche for taking our Year 6 boys on camp to Tuross. They enjoyed lovely weather and many fun experiences together. Please see some action shots of the boys from the three days down at the coast.

Junior School Swimming Carnival – Friday 5 March @ Queanbeyan Pool. Please note that the program with approximate event times has been included below. Students can wear house coloured shirt and PE shorts and/or board shorts on the day (with swimmers underneath or packed in the bag. Please encourage your son to bring a hat, sunscreen, rash shirt for novelty events, food and a water bottle on the day. In the event of light rain, we will likely try to push on with the carnival but if we need to cancel an email will go out as soon as possible. Please send your son/s ready for the carnival regardless.

Junior School Assembly – Thursday 11 March in the Hall at 2.15pm-3.15pm. Next week we will celebrate student learning and present academic awards to some of our Junior School students. There will be an opportunity for guests to enjoy a tea/coffee and light refreshments afterwards. Parents/carers of students receiving awards will be notified with approximately one week’s notice.

Junior School Athletics Carnival – Wednesday 24 March. More details will be provided closer to the day. Please note that on this day we will be running a Caritas fundraising opportunity. Students will be able to pre-purchase a meal deal from the canteen with any profits going to Caritas. Details on how to purchase this meal deal will be made available closer to the day.
