Junior School News: Week 6, Term 3, 2018

What a massive week for the Junior School! Year 5 students had a wonderful time at Tuross for camp. There were some exhausted bodies and weary-looking faces upon their return…not to mention the students. Thank you to Ms Cusack, Mr Bell, Mr Roberts, Miss De Leon and parent volunteers Kylie, Jason and Will for taking such wonderful care of these students. If camp wasn’t enough, Year 5 students had to back up for Friday’s Junior School Book Week parade. I’m not sure what caused more of a stir, Mr Di Fronzo’s Mr Smee outfit or Mr O’Rourke’s green leggings as part of his Peter Pan outfit. It was great to see such energy and enthusiasm for the parade by such a large number of boys. Congratulations to Mr O’Rourke for his organisation of the day but also for his ongoing commitment to helping the young men of St Edmund’s find inspiration from reading.

On the weekend our Junior and High School Tournament of the Minds teams competed at the regional finals day. Congratulations to Nikko (Year 4), Lukas and Damien (Year 5), Ben, Josh, Tom and Aidyn (Year 6) for completing the challenge and producing an excellent performance. They received some terrific feedback from the judges. We wish our High School team all the best as they have qualified for the State Final this Saturday.

This week we have had an Experience Eddies Day for boys who will be attending St Edmund’s from next year. We are really happy with how enrolments are tracking. If you know of anyone who may be interested in enrolling their son/s, please direct them to the College website for further details on the process.

Year 6’s painting gnomes – Gnome painting for Floriade is underway in Year 6. With a soccer theme this year, Year 6 are painting the 1st 11 home and away kits, the Socceroos and some officials and supporters for our display. We look forward to seeing the finished products on display at Floriade in September. Gnomes will be able to be taken home in Term 4.

Father’s Day Mass this Friday 31 August @ 9.30am – For the many Dad’s/significant others attending, please arrive a few minutes early so you can locate your son and sit with them during Mass. Join us afterwards for a morning tea in the Junior School library.

And finally, just a reminder that we have approximately 50 students from the Secondary School (and 10 brave souls from year 6) sleeping in the College gymnasium as a fundraiser for Karinya House and the Home in Queanbeyan. All students are encouraged to donate $10 for a ticket in a raffle that could see them perform their dream job at St Edmund’s for a day. All monies raised will go to these worthy charities.
