Junior School News: Week 6, Term 4, 2020

Last week we were able to have a wonderful Junior School assembly with many parents/carers and guests present. I would like to congratulate all award winners and also those who performed in poetry recitals or memorable musical performances. Thank you also to Miss Cusack for stepping in to lead the assembly in my absence. This Friday we will farewell our current Year 12 students, after their Graduation Mass.  Junior School students will be part of a guard of honour to recognise their hard work and commitment to their schooling over many years. We will also have some Year 6 representatives to speak to Year 12 on behalf of Junior School during their ceremony (to be streamed live to other students within the school).

Uniform – Please note the uniform shop will be closed for much of the holidays. Families wanting to purchase uniforms will need to order this term. Items can then be collected the week before school. Please don’t leave ordering until next year. Opening hours are displayed on the school website.

Just a reminder about our School Christmas Hamper Appeal for St Vincent de Paul and Karinya House. The amount of donations of foodstuffs and personal care items such as body moisturisers or items for babies such as baby toys has been heart-warming. Some Students are also taking part in “Chores for Charity” where they do chores for family/friends and receive a token payment for completing the chore.

The money collected is returned to school and at the completion of the appeal this money is then spent purchasing more items for both our charities. I would like to acknowledge and thank you for your ongoing and very generous support of the appeal. The finish date for the appeal is 6 December. The College touchstones of Inclusive Community and Gospel Spirituality are very evident in the Junior School at present. Thank you to Ms Cusack for organising and driving this appeal in the Junior School.

Library Books – to be returned by Friday 27 November. If your son cannot find a book he has borrowed, please ask him to check his desk at school.

Hats – Just a reminder that all Junior School students need to have a hat for PE classes and also for recess and lunch. As with all clothing, please ensure your son’s hat is clearly marked with his name. We have a few jackets and jumpers with no names marked so if you think they might be your son’s please encourage him to come and see me.

Co-Curricular Activities to cease end of Week 8 – please note that Week 8 will be the final sessions for all co-curricular activities with the exception of some sports (please contact basketball and cricket coordinators for more specific information).

Picnic Day Monday 7 December – On this day students will be attending Big Splash Water Park. Please see the note handed out this week for details.

Junior School Presentation Ceremony – Tuesday 8 December @9.15am. Our ceremony will be held from 9.15am – 10.15am. On this occasion award recipients (first, second and third) for each class will be recognised, along with other major awards including sportsman of the year, a music award and improvement awards for each class. All Year 6 students will receive a certificate for completing their Junior School studies. At this stage we are still working out logistics in order to include as many parents as possible at this event. More information will be provided closer to the date. Please note that on this day Years 4-11 classes will cease at 1.00pm. If parents/carers wish to take their son/s home after our Presentation Ceremony, please just send an email to studentservices@stedmunds.act.edu.au
