Junior School News: Week 7, Term 1, 2020

Thank you to all who were able to purchase a book or two during our Book Fair. We enjoyed a lovely breakfast last Wednesday to launch the fair and we have sold plenty of books. This will add to home libraries and the school library so thank you for your support of reading at the school.

We also had a very successful time at the Matt Giteau Cup with our Year 4 team undefeated (although finished 3rd due to for and against) and our Year 6 team taking out the title in a well fought final against Canberra Grammar. It is unclear when the Southern NSW finals will take place in the current health climate.

Last Friday we were able to hold our Junior School swimming carnival which was a great day of participation. We had perfect weather and I was particularly impressed by our House Leaders and their ability to motivate their teams. Well done to Mr Fox and all of our parent volunteers for ensuring the carnival ran smoothly. Please note that due to measures put in place for the Coronavirus, all future excursions and carnivals in Term 1, including the Junior School athletics carnival that was supposed to held tomorrow, and the South Weston regional swimming carnival, have been either cancelled or postponed.

Unfortunately for the rest of this term, at least, most noteworthy events will not occur at school. The landscape for schools is changing rapidly but as a school we feel in a very strong position to respond to any directives provided. Please continue to speak to your son/s about good hygiene practices and remind them of social distancing suggestions.

One of the hottest talking points at present is if/when schools will shut down. Although we are not there at this point, I am asking families to please consider if they have an appropriate device and internet connectivity for online learning (i.e. ability to interact with CANVAS – the school’s online learning platform). Teachers will be working hard behind the scenes to ensure our learning program continues with appropriate academic rigour should the school need to shut down for a short or extended period of time. Please contact your son’s teacher should you be concerned about your son’s ability to access online learning as we should be able to assist in this area should we get to that point.

Please take care of each other during this unprecedented time and take note of updates from the Principal.
