Junior School News: Week 8, Term 1, 2018

As we head into Easter, I encourage everyone to embrace the opportunity to be with family. Whilst Term 1 has been ‘eventful’, the Easter break gives all a chance to catch up, take a breath and enjoy a peaceful few days. Last week we had a terrific Japanese Cultural experience, provided by our visitors from Japan. Junior School students were able to witness a dance routine and participate in a question and answer forum. A huge thanks must go to all our billeting families and Mr Taylor for enabling this visit to occur.

On Friday, students participated in the Junior School athletics carnival. Thank you to Mr Fox, staff, and our Year 12 students who helped make it a great day of participation, competition and fun. I have asked our Junior School Religious Education Coordinator, Miss Cusack, to alert you all about some upcoming events associated with Easter and our Week of Mission.

Holy Week is a time when we celebrate and reflect upon in a special way the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. We remember his actions, reflect upon his messages, celebrate the gift of new life and recommit ourselves to living as his disciples in our world today.

The students of the Junior School will be engaged in classroom-based Holy Week activities and will come together in Period 1 on Thursday to celebrate our Easter Liturgy. The liturgy will be run by Sam Stubbs, our College youth minister, and the MGL brothers Tim and Donald, who are a part of the College for 2018.

Holy Thursday will also be the commencement of our College Mission Week and be raising money for Caritas and awareness for those in our world whose needs are great. The timetable for this week is as follows:

Tuesday 3 April – There will be a focus on prayer and the power prayer has to change lives.

Wednesday 4 April – Mufti day. Students can wear appropriate casual clothing and if possible wear a suitable piece of clothing that appropriately celebrates their cultural background. A gold coin donation is requested and this money will go towards our support of Caritas.

Thursday 5 April – our weekly College mass will be celebrated in the chapel at 8:20 am and adoration will follow mass.

Friday 6 April – the week will conclude with a staff versus student soccer match at lunchtime in the gymnasium.

Throughout Mission week the Junior School classes will be hearing stories of individuals whose lives have experienced positive change due to the amazing work of Caritas.

Book Fair Summary

Thank you to all parents who have supported our book fair. It was a resounding success and as a result we now have $500 to spend on new books for our library. Thank you to Mr O’Rourke for his organisation of this event.
