Things are always busy in the Maths Department. This year we have welcomed three new teachers, with a fourth due to start on the first day of term 2. There are currently 12 teachers across the senior school teaching one or more classes of Maths, and almost every student in the senior school is studying a level of Maths.
A reminder that all students are expected to have a calculator every lesson. We recommend the Casio 82auPlusII calculator (which can be purchased from reception for $37), but any scientific calculator is fine.
I am keen to let you know about some for extension and enrichment.
Australian Maths Competition (AMC)
The AMC is an engaging 30-problem competition that demonstrates the importance and relevance of mathematics in students’ everyday lives. Australia’s leading educators and academics, with a deep understanding of our national curriculum standards, actively design the unique AMC problems each year. This year the AMC will be held on Tuesday 5 August during Periods 1&2.
The Maths Department will cover the entry cost, but students who sign up must participate on the day. Students can sign up via their Maths Canvas Page and entries close on Friday 23 May.

Opportunities for our high level senior Maths students.
On Thursday 13 March students from Year 11 and 12 Specialist Maths Methods classes joined together with students from St Clare’s to hear all about Actuarial Studies at ANU. They learned what an actuary is, what they can expect from a degree in this area and some of the amazing career paths open to them. A great opportunity for our top Mathematics students.
