Mother’s Day Mass

Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue… Her children rise up and call her blessed

Proverbs 31:25-30.

On Friday we had our Mother’s Day Mass celebrated by our wonderful Fr Dave. We were so blessed to have him share part of his story growing up, his relationship with his mum and then singing a tribute to all mothers. It truly was a beautiful celebration of motherhood, family and love.

This was the first time we celebrated with an invitation to the whole community- both Junior school and High school. Although it was a new space, the spirit and messages of the celebration shone through in all aspects. There are so many moments that were special and so many relationships we could see which have an impact on our boys. There are some who are unable to celebrate Mother’s day for a variety of reasons- perhaps we don’t have strong relationships, perhaps someone has passed away or perhaps a loved one is overseas. This makes for challenging times for any young person. Our boys draw strength from the community, their mates and their support networks around them and both here and at home. So when we celebrate ‘Mother’s Day’ let us celebrate all who take us into their loving embrace and guide us with their wisdom.

Many thanks must be said to all the boys who assisted in readings and reflections during the Mass we held here on Friday. Patrick Burns in year 12 reflected on the role of his parents during his time at school and ended with some advice for all boys- ‘Say thank you’ – a simple but beautiful message grounded in the fact that sometimes we don’t show enough gratitude for the small things which we can take for granted.  I also thank the staff who assisted in the set up of the event and particular thanks to those who assisted in running the event – both Mass and Morning Tea:

Fr David Lemewu– for his beautiful celebration, his ability to connect with each person in the room and for being an experience of faith and love for all. The Eddies Hospitality Team: Paula, Bec and Audra– the morning tea these beautiful women provided was so well received and appreciated. From set up to pack up the team of boys who take part in hospitality did so much with grace and ease. Bridget Cusack – for laying the foundations of the Mother’s Day Mass.  This was the first time that we had the Mother’s day Mass include the High School and so I sincerely thank Bridget for her role in assisting to make this vision a reality this year. Sean Gautusa– for his beautiful voice throughout the event, during communion and as the mums entered. Sean was also joined by Ishea Chitsungo (Year 12) who sang a tribute to mums. The RE and Support Staff – for assisting in wrapping flowers, setting up and supporting the event

May we take in these precious moments with those who are closest to us. We are looking forward to celebrating our families at various other events throughout the school year. We thank you for your support of events and for allowing us to be a part of your son’s journey as part of the St Edmund’s College family.
