Planning for the future: Transition time for our Year 10 students

We are here to help with the big decisions.

In this month our Year 10 students will begin to make their subject selections for their transition into senior study. This can be a daunting and overwhelming process for students as many haven’t given future study and career pathways a lot of thought. In addition to this the many options and opportunities can be overwhelming and students can find themselves at a bit of a loss when they are asked the question “So, what do you want to do after school?”

There are a number of events at the College over the next few weeks, including information nights and dedicated time in Elevated Learning classes for students to be given some of the information they will use to make these decisions. Another, sometimes overlooked, resource are the members of the Student Wellbeing Team who have lots of experience guiding students though this time and supporting them as they make what feels like very big decisions. Each student can talk to their Tutor or Head of House about how they are dealing with the process. The Heads of House in particular love to offer advice (and offer excellent advice!) for students who might need to take a step back to reflect on their goals and aspirations or need encouragement to strive to reach their full potential. I would strongly encourage each student to consider talking to their Head of House or Tutor about what they are planning and what they are hoping to achieve by the time they graduate from St Edmund’s College. Or if that seems like to big of a conversation, some advice about what particular subjects involve and where they might lead may also be welcome.
