St Edmund’s Cricket Club 2019/2020 Season

Welcome to the 2019/20 cricket season. The St Edmund’s College Cricket Club exists to provide an effective cricket support infrastructure for St Edmunds students to play cricket and develop their cricket skills and interest in the game.

When is the season?

The season will commence on 12 October for Saturday games. Play will break in mid-December for the Christmas holidays and recommence at the beginning of February 2020. The season will finish in early March 2018. Grading will be held during week 9 and training will begin in week 10. Details regarding specific training days and start dates are TBC.

Cricket ACT is encouraging ACT clubs to enter teams in the Kookaburra Cup, held in the second week of the Spring holidays in Canberra. Players interested in playing in that competition and any coaches who would like to enter their teams should contact Mr Taylor as soon as possible.

How are teams run?

Volunteers are essential for the support and future of St Edmund’s College Cricket. Please mark the appropriate box when you complete the on-line registration form if you are able to coach, manage, umpire or score this season. Please note – ACT regulations mean that it is mandatory for all volunteers to hold a WWVP card. WWVP cards can be obtained through Access Canberra and are free of charge for volunteers.

What age does my son have to be to play?

Boys can play cricket from Year 4 to Year 12. Depending on date of birth (see table below), your son will play under 11s in Year 4 or under 12s or under 13s in Year 7. In certain cases, age group exemptions can be applied, however in the first instance it is expected that all players play in their correct age group.

Do I have to provide any cricket gear?

For health and hygiene reasons, it is recommended that all players provide their own box (protector) and helmet. Players should come to kit day at school on Saturday, September 21 from 9 a.m. to midday to ensure that they have access to appropriate equipment for their use.

What do players wear?

All players are to observe the dress requirements for St Edmunds College Cricket, i.e. official playing shirt embroidered with the College crest to be purchased from the school uniform shop, and white/cream trousers which can be purchased from any sports store. Players should wear the Club’s broad-brimmed cricket hat or St Edmunds cap. These items are available only from the College Clothing Shop.

Kit day, gear exchange and community BBQ – September 21

A St Edmund’s U12 team will be playing against a team from Sydney Grammar at School on September 21. We will also use this as a day for players to come along and try on equipment. If you have old equipment that you would like to sell, please bring it to school clearly labelled with price and contact details on Friday September 20. This equipment will be displayed for sale on Kit day,

Pink Stumps day

Pink Stumps day will be held again in 2020. If you are able to assist in the organisation of this day please contact Deb debcb77@icloud.com
