On the 13th of May, I told my mother that I wanted to shave my head as a way to support the Cancer Foundation. My mother agreed with an overly enthusiastic, “yeah, all righty.” As she had been waiting for the moment when I had grown enough hair to be able to make this a worthwhile sacrifice. I did some research after that, on how I could sign up for The World’s Greatest Shave. It took me to the Leukaemia Foundation website, where I was heavily motivated and inspired by seeing so many other people prepared to lose their precious locks for such a good cause.
When I was 11, one of my close friends passed away from cancer. I have always wanted to do something to raise awareness of the challenging circumstances some people and their families face and also look for a way to raise funds to support further research.
To date, I have raised over $200 on my personal profile in sponsorship and hope to raise a little more from my peers when they witness ‘The Great Shave’.
