An update from the Careers Advisor

I am really excited to be taking over the role of Career Advisor at the College from 2018, and a little humbled to be walking in the very experienced footsteps of Ian Harvey who had made the role his own for over 30 years. In the role of Careers Advisor I am here to talk with your sons about subject choices, Senior Secondary study packages, pathways after College, Work Experience opportunities and University applications.  For many young men the decisions that they have to make during this period can be daunting and overwhelming. However, they need not be. With preparation, research and consideration of their skills and abilities the choices they make during their senior years can set them up for a lifetime of successful career decisions.

I would encourage parents and students to familiarise themselves with the College’s new Careers website, www.seccareers.com.au , which has a plethora of information including interactive bullseye employment posters, information on job vacancies and WEX opportunities, youth allowance information and links to information regarding Senior studies. This website will be the main communication tool I will use to engage with our students.

All Year 11 and 12 Accredited students are reminded that they are required to go on Work Experience during the last week of Term Two, 25-29 June. Students should be starting to consider placement opportunities and contacting employers to offer their services during this time. They must collect an application form and a Logbook from my office in the library. These are also available to download from the Careers website.  The benefits of WEX are exponential and I highly recommend that students do not pass up this excellent opportunity to get out into the workforce, develop their skills and form networks within their chosen area of employment.

For any question regarding WEX of future pathways, please contact me.
