Welcome to the 2018 Academic Year

Dear Parents/Guardians

Welcome back to the start of the 2018 academic year. We proudly acknowledge the results of the 2017 cohort and invite you to visit our website for more details.  These results are the product of hard work, dedication and support from parents, teachers and the wider community. Our sincere thanks to all who contributed to a supportive learning environment that enabled our students to deliver their best. We look forward to your continued support.

Staffing changes

In Term One we welcome a number of new staff to the St Edmund’s College community. Mr Joe Zavone, our school Principal, brings a wealth of knowledge from a teaching and learning background. The RE faculty welcomes Mr Martin Smith, a retired Principal with much experience in World Religion. He will also contribute to the Social Science faculty. Mr Dean Parkes is on a year’s leave and we are excited to welcome Ms Rebecca Jarman to our team in the Technology faculty. Ms Jarman brings with her extensive industry experience in Hospitality. The Social Science Faculty is joined by Mr John Obermeier who is continuing the great work he started in 2017. He will also be involved in the Mathematics faculty. Mr Peter Langford committed to a wonderful learning experience through an exchange program in Canada and we welcome Mr David Redfern to the team in Mathematics. Mr Redfern will also be teaching in the Science faculty. The Technology faculty is joined by Mr Angus Watson. Mr Watson brings with him industry experience and a passion for all things wood. The Junior School teaching team is joined by Mr Neil Roberts who will be a Year 6 classroom teacher. Also joining the Year 6 team is Mr Tom Pilkinton. We also welcome Ms Alice French in Studies office. And lastly, we wish Ms Susanna Afeaki and Mr Justin Giteau a speedy recovery and welcome Mr Peter Birrell and Mr David Barry to our teaching staff for the next three weeks.

Timetable

At St Edmund’s College we continuously strive to improve the learning experience of all our students. This year will see our Year 4, 5 and 6 students study Technology under the care of Mr David Kelly. Students will develop skills and confidence to complete practical projects working with their hands. We are also introducing Food Technology to Year 7 students where they can try their hand in the kitchen. The LOTE faculty will introduce a different approach in Year 7. All students will study a term of French and a term of Japanese. They will then have the opportunity to select their language of preference to continue with in Semester Two and into Year 8. In our senior years, 98% of students were allocated with their main subject preferences.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all new students, parents and staff to the St Edmund’s community. We look forward to a productive academic year where each student will have a meaningful learning experience. We extend a very warm invitation to contact the Studies Office if you have any questions or concerns regarding your son’s learning.

Kind Regards

Marianne Geoghegan (Director of Teaching and Learning)
