Welcome to the 2022 school year from the Teaching and Learning Team

Welcome to the 2022 school year. Only a week or so ago we weren’t certain how things would look to start the year, and if the past few years have taught us anything it’s that we can’t know for certain how things will unfold in the upcoming months, but it does feel good to be back with colleagues and students and we are certainly excited about the year ahead in teaching and learning.

One reason for our excitement is that we have been able to welcome a wonderful educator to our academic middle-leadership team, Ms Linda Goth, our new Head of Mathematics. Ms Goth replaces Mr Zach Holmes as Head of Mathematics. Mr Holmes is taking up a new role with us as the Assessment and Data Coordinator.  A third addition to the team, Ms Caroline Devlin, will be acting as Head of English to start the year while Ms Kerin fills in with the Wellbeing area.

A key area of emphasis for us to start this year is making an explicit effort to teach not just content, but to help students understand and instil in them the learning behaviours that will lead to ongoing and ever-increasing growth in their skills, knowledge and understandings across their subjects. These behaviours include things like active listening, problem solving strategies, use of feedback and of course submission of drafts. Hopefully some of these conversations started in class will filter home to family chats and goal-setting discussions.

Even if 2022 doesn’t get us quite back to normal, whatever that is anymore, in the teaching and learning space I take confidence from partnerships were strengthened between the teachers and parents in our community through the challenges of the past couple of years. Please don’t hesitate to build on these and reach out to us to discuss your child’s learning and their academic pathways and goals for the future.

Kind regards,

Tim Bibbens
