Winter is coming! And although it feels like it started months ago, it’s only getting colder…
The Vinnies Winter Appeal provides emergency relief to people at risk and experiencing homelessness. Your donation and support will help ensure that families at risk of homelessness get the financial and emotional support they need to keep themselves and their children safe.
Particularly in these colder months we ask for:
- Blankets
- Large Jackets
- Large Jumpers
- Warm Gloves and Socks
- Sleeping Bags
These donations then go directly to people in need in your community or sold at our Vinnies Centres to generate funds for other forms of assistance like case management and assistance with utility bills.
Vinnies are always so grateful for your support, whether it’s through donating, hosting a sleepout, or just raising awareness, it really makes a difference!
Homelessness facts…
In March 2018, the 2016 Census data was released. The data shows an increase in the national homelessness rate from 48 persons for every 10,000 persons (in 2011) to 50 persons for every 10,000 persons (in 2016). Overall, on the 2016 Census night, 116,427 Australians were counted as experiencing homelessness. “Home”lessness, not “Roof”lessness
The Australian Bureau of Statistics classifies a person as experiencing homelessness if their current dwelling:
