Year 10 Upcoming Events

Dear parents and carers,

I hope that the term has started well and that the students are settling in nicely to their studies. I have to say that it was great to see so many Year 10s at the Careers Information Night engaging with the exhibitors and exploring different industries and career options. From the sound of things there are some really positive conversations already happening with regards to educational plans and futures.

To help support the students in their thinking about their futures, and facilitate those conversations at home, during their EL lessons on August 13th & 20th the students will be guided by our Careers Advisor Ms Jarman through different Careers Education activities. I would encourage parents to check the Elevated Learning page on Canvas on those days and to touch base with their sons to see what ideas might have come out of those sessions. We’ll also be providing information and answering questions about Tertiary studies for those students who would like to better understand the university application process, what ATARs are and how they are calculated, and what they should be considering when making their course selections for next year.

A date to circle on the calendar is Monday the 23rd of August when we will be holding Year 10 into 11 subject selection interviews throughout the day. This was originally scheduled to be held in the Edmund Rice Centre. The interviews will still be going ahead, however, we will now be holding the interviews at your scheduled time via video conference. All parents will be contacted via email with interview invitations and with further information on how to access the interview via video conference. We ask that you are patient while we set up interviews and contact families.

Even if you are not sure about plans for next year, please book a time for the 10 into 11 interview as we want to make sure that every student who starts Year 11 with us has had that very important conversation. As a reminder, Year 10 students will not attend class on the 23rd and only need to be present at school for the interview. If you can’t make it in on the 23rd, please contact me directly so that an interview can be organised.

Finally, on a related note, applications for scholarship for 2022 and 2023 are now open. Up to 6 half-tuition scholarships are on offer for current Year 10 students. Please follow the link for more details about the scholarship and the application process (https://sec.act.edu.au/senior-school-academic-scholarship-application/ )

I look forward to seeing you all during these events. If you have any questions now or at any stage please don’t hesitate to be in touch.

Kind regards,
Tim Bibbens
