Year 7 Swimming Social Day

Year 7 House groups compete at the social swimming day.

On Friday of week 5, the year 7 cohort spent the day at Civic pool for a day full of House competitions under the direction of various House Captains and a range of staff. Activities on the day included; Volleyball, Hungry Hippos, Water Polo, Swimming Races and the jumping board. They embraced the day exceptionally and their house spirit was commendable. It was fantastic to see the year 7’s come together and enjoy the day thoroughly.

Mulrooney house won the Community Swimming Carnival in 2021 so were coming in very confident under the direction of Ms Manenica. Ms Gair however was quietly confident that Treacy would reclaim the title after a strong history of success in the water in previous years. Much to everyone’s surprise other than Mrs Beard and house captains Luca and Will, Haydon house claimed the winning title. Haydon house started strongly with winning the Volleyball and Hungry Hippo house competitions and then continued their successes throughout the day. Trailing behind in second position was Tracey house and the final competition for the day was the swimming races which would determine the overall winner of the day. Each race included a representative from each house. The title was nearly lost for Haydon house when Mr Richardson swam in the final race for the day being the senior leaders’ race. He represented Haydon House in lane two and was up against representative swimmers from Mulrooney and Treacy. In true Richardson style, he called go, initiated the race and jumped out of the blocks first. He touched the wall in 5th position which nearly cost Haydon the championship.

Overall, the day was a great success which saw Year 7 come together as a cohort and participate in a friendly yet competitive house competition.

Final standings for the day:
1st:  Haydon
2nd Treacy
3rd Rice
4th O’Brien
5th Clancy
6th Mulrooney
