Celebrating our House System

The House System at St Edmund’s College is one of our defining features and greatest strengths in creating and supporting a strong foundation for every student. Events such as our House Days build a sense of community and the House Shield allows each student to contribute to their House, focusing on their strengths. The competition for the 2021 Therese Kitney House Shield is well underway. With the presentation of the Term 4 2020 Gold Awards at last week’s academic assembly and the Silver and Bronze Awards at House meetings during the last two weeks the first points of the year are on the board. In addition, many students have been awarded merit points already this year, contributing to their House’s success. Students can earn merit points by showing their commitment to the SEC Statement of Pride or demonstration of the College Touchstones in their interactions with staff, peers and the community.

The 2020 House Shield winners, O’Brien House, are out in front already, thanks to their strong academic efforts in Term 4 of last year. The next big event of the House Shield competition is the high school Swimming Carnival in Week 5. Treacy House, who have been Swimming Carnival champions for the last 7 years, definitely have their eyes firmly on the 100 points which will be awarded to the winning House on the day. Nevertheless, they are rumored to be facing some strong competition this year which will make attendance and participation all the more important.

Each House will be celebrating their House’s character, strengths and founder on their House Day this year. Last week Mulrooney House celebrated their House Day with an extended House Meeting and BBQ. Throughout the year, every House will have the opportunity to do the same.
