Tutoring Program

Years 4 – 6

A homework club is offered in the Junior School Library for students in Years 4-6 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30pm-4:30pm. Bookings can be made with the Junior School Homework Club Coordinator by emailing bcusack@sec.act.edu.au

This assistance is to support students to complete homework and/or assignment work. Students should come with an idea of what they need to work on during each session. One-to-one tutoring is beyond the scope of homework club. Bookings are essential and need to be made with a day’s notice.

Years 7 – 12

Our Tutoring Program is a wonderful opportunity for students of all ages and stages of their schooling to be proactive and conscientious learners. Tutoring will be available to students on a voluntary basis on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons. We are located in the Senior Library from 3:30pm-5:00pm Tuesday – Thursday, and 3:30pm-4:30pm on Fridays. Students attending have the luxury of working with various teaching staff at the College from a variety of teaching areas and also benefit from the peer mentoring and academic guidance that the Year 12 students provide.

Students can receive assistance with revision of their class work, homework or with their upcoming assessment tasks. While students will be exposed to skills such as: deconstruction of language for improved understanding of the demands of a task, organisation and time management, scaffolding and breaking tasks down into digestible portions and general study and exam preparation, the program is designed to foster and develop an independent work ethic in students.

After school tutoring does not negate a student’s responsibility to seek out classroom teacher advice and assistance as a first point of call and does not excuse students from completing homework and assessment by the due date on the premise that they may be waiting for help from a tutor. Students may attend as many or as few sessions as they wish on a regular or casual basis but we do ask that parents indicate via Clipboard when your child will be attending.
