Elevated Learning Term 4

Exam preparation and Study Tips

This term in Elevated Learning the key concept has been exam preparation and study tips. While only the Year 10, 11 and 12 students sit formal exams, most students will end up the year taking tests in a variety of subjects as a culmination of their units. The strategies taught in Elevated Learning focussed on effective notetaking, including organising key information into headings and subheadings, as well as mind-mapping how information and ideas relate to one another. Another key understanding is knowing the difference between active vs passive revision of material. Active revision means that students are actively retrieving information from their memory, such as with self- or peer-quizzing, flash cards, pre-writing extended responses from memory, etc. Active revision helps to solidify knowledge within the long-term memory where it can be called upon as needed.

Hopefully students are all developing effective study routines at home as well as at school. Parents and carers who are wanting to support their sons’ assessment preparation should check out the Elevated Learning page on Canvas and work with the student to apply those study tips to the tasks that they have upcoming.
