Feeling Overwhelmed – In these uncertain days it is very normal to experience difficult emotions

2020 is certainly proving to be a challenging time for us to manage the plethora of human emotions that we all experience. From the negative emotions of anxiety and fear to the positive emotions of love and hope. In times of uncertainty we move to protect ourselves and our loved ones and in some this has manifested in the hoarding behavior that we have witnessed at our local supermarkets. As a counsellor, myself and counsellors from other schools have been readying ourselves with resources on how to support our students and families. These resources include Youtube videos on how to explain the Coronavirus and why we need to stay home to young children, mindfulness exercises on handwashing  as well as the joining of many Facebook groups that have sprung up on supporting children. I have also been receiving some lovely resources from both National and International organisations.  There are far too many to share but I thought I would share today my two favourite. Firstly from the Australian Childhood Foundation – Hugs have met and they are not happy.

And secondly from Ted Talks an interview of author Elizabeth Gilbert by Chris Anderson – It’s OK to feel overwhelmed. Here’s what to do next.
