Interesting Times to be Settling Back into School Life

The first few weeks of this year have been unpredictable, to say the least. Although Covid-19 is still hanging over us, I think it’s fair to say that it hasn’t stopped all the boys at St Edmund’s from starting their year off well, settling back into their academic and co-curricular lives, and enjoying the company of friends and teachers that they haven’t seen in months.

All cricket teams at St Edmund’s have started their seasons well, while other sports like soccer and rugby have already begun their pre-season training, with all boys dreaming of achieving that sought-after grand final win for their team. Basketball trials are also coming up, with many boys having aspirations of making the First V or just having fun with their friends.

While many boys at the school have started to settle back into their training routines for their respective sports, the entire school has started settling back into the social and academic side of things, with events such as the Ash Wednesday liturgy and the induction of college leaders coming up. These events are key aspects of the College’s proud traditions at the beginning of a new school year, and despite its challenges, this year should not be any different.

Covid-19 is making the organisation of these events more challenging, but I know personally that all staff members and senior leadership team members are doing everything they can to ensure that the beginning of this school year runs as safely and smoothly as possible. Let us as a college show our ability to adapt to change by supporting each of these upcoming events, and each other, through our participation and commitment to making these events memorable, enjoyable, and a great start to 2022.
