Junior School News: Week 3, Term 1, 2019

Last week Junior School joined in the whole school opening Mass at St Christopher’s in Manuka. It was great to see our Junior School Leaders commissioned, along with our new Deputy Principal and Senior School Leaders. Congratulations to Jesse James, Jesse Borghouts, Hamish Feitz, William Steele and Thomas Jamieson on their selection as Junior School Leaders and Junior School Service Leaders respectively for semester one. We look forward to their input and hope they can help drive new initiatives. Well done to all of the boys and families that assisted with the St Vincent’s Door Knock Appeal and/or Pink Stumps Day. Thank you also to Ms Cusack for organising the Junior Students for the door knock appeal. Pink Stumps Day was an excellent community day and the cricket I witnessed was of a very high standard. Congratulations to all involved.

Library News

The Junior School Library is open Monday and Wednesdays before school (8.20am-8.50am) and lunchtimes every day.  Lunchtime activities include reading, drawing, cards and board games. Boys are permitted to use the Computer Lab at lunchtime and are encouraged to work on class assignments in this time.

Tuesday Lunch will be the only day the Computer Lab will be closed. This day will be called TECH FREE Tuesday so students can have a break from technology to engage with one another and participate in the lunchtime activities mentioned above.

WEDNESDAY BOOKCLUB – This Wednesday 20 February during lunch I will be starting a Book club for any boys in year 4, 5 or 6 who are interested. This is an opportunity for boys to share their favourite books, reflect on what they read and learn about different authors and text types.

BOOK FAIR- This is scheduled to take place in Week 6. Families will have the opportunity to purchase books from the Book Fair if they wish.

Finally if any families have board games or puzzles to donate to the Junior School Library that are in good condition and suitable for boys in the Junior School please know they will be gratefully received.
