Junior School News: Week 8, Term 2, 2020

As we approach the end of semester one, it seems appropriate to reflect on the year so far. Parents will no doubt reflect on a very challenging start to 2020 with thoughts of smoke, coronavirus, online teaching and learning and the reality of no real holiday for almost half a year. Whilst some fortunate families will be able to utilise the eased travel restrictions in July for a well earned break, many won’t be able to, looking at the possibility of an October break.

Junior School teachers have been working very hard over the past few weeks in order to assess and report on your son’s progress as accurately as possible. Please view the reports in Week 10 and note that there will be an opportunity to discuss progress at Parent/Teacher interviews early next term. Unless circumstances change, I am hoping we can conduct these as normal in the Junior School.

Our students have coped really well with the disruptions of 2020. That’s not to say everything is absolutely normal and as teachers we have been keeping a close eye for any changed behaviour, anxieties or apathy. It is only natural that some students were chomping at the bit to return to school whilst some others may have become used to learning in their ugg boots. Students this year have had to show increased resilience. They have been persistent in rising to the challenge and have coped with the set backs of 2020. Although our celebrations and assemblies are not yet open to parents, students have been celebrated for excellent work during our Friday morning assemblies. We look forward to the possibility of parents/carers once again attending assemblies in Term 3.

The last day of Term 2 is Friday 26 June. During Week 10 teachers will be involved in professional learning on campus.

Team Heat is running a two camps during the break if families are looking for care options. Details below:

St Edmund’s College Junior School will be hosting Team H.E.A.T holiday programs in the upcoming school holidays. The first will be held on Thursday July 2 & Friday July 3 (Week 10). The second will be held across three days on Monday July 13, Tuesday July 14 & Wednesday July 15. Enrolments are open to boys and girls aged between 7-12.
