Learning doesn’t just occur within the walls of the classroom

In Week 4 of this term, the Senior Physical Education class ventured down the Kings Highway for a day of Surfing and Stand Up Paddleboarding. Mr Masters and 14 students spent the day under the expert coaching of Surf the Bay instructor Tim Lassau as they entered the “green room” in search of six-foot monsters at South Broulee. Although the surf wasn’t as big as expected, students got to experience learning outside the classroom. When asked on the way home how the day was, Willie Mariner of Year 11 said “Today was awesome, I haven’t been surfing before and was really excited about spending the day with my mates and becoming the Samoan Mick Fanning”.

The Health and Physical Education department is proud to be the first school in Australia to host a new school initiative titled “Everybody Wins”. On 19 November St Edmund’s College is excited to welcome Mr Dave Barrie and a host of Australia’s leading minds to sit down and discuss hot topics with our Year 10 students. The Health and Wellness day is aimed at improving the mindset of our students with seminars ranging from nutrition and exercise to financial skills that could help set up our students as they enter their senior years. We look forward to welcoming Dave and his staff in hopefully what becomes a successful and worthwhile partnership.

In a College first, St Edmund’s College entered the Year 9-10 Clyde and Rauter Shield Rugby League carnival. After a hugely successful day the team has progressed to the final round to be played on Thursday 8th November. “Our main goal is to always have fun,” Daniel Shaw said with his sights firmly set on the final rounds. A huge thank you to Justin Giteau (Australian Country Rugby League Coach of the Year) and Denzil Fox (Gisborne Boys High Hall of Fame) for their excellent leadership and initiative in leading these young men.
