My Father, My Refuge: Father’s Day Mass

My Father, My Refuge: Father’s Day Mass

On Friday, 30th August, we hosted our annual Father’s Day Mass, celebrated by Fr. Chris Eaton. During the Mass, we heard reflections on the Parable of the Prodigal Son, where Fr. Chris challenged us to recognize that we are unconditionally loved by our caregivers and reminded us that there are people who believe in us. We also heard beautiful reflections from Kieran Cunningham (Year 4) and Hamish Fietz (Year 11), who spoke eloquently about what their fathers mean to them.

With the theme being “My Father, My Refuge,” the boys were invited to reflect on what their fathers represent to them. We saw touching responses from both Junior RE classes in the High School and all Junior School classes. Some of the most heart warming sentiments included phrases like “My father is my hero,” “He picks me up and makes me better,” or simply “The best.” Alongside these reflections, the boys also offered special prayers for their fathers and grandfathers, which moved many of us. Some of their prayers included: “That he lives a happy and healthy life,” “That he knows how loved he is,” and “That he can grow old and see my children.”

Fathers and Grandfathers were offered a small gift of prayer to take with them as a reminder of the love and care our Father has for us but also as memento of this special moment they shared with their sons or grandsons.

There was an overwhelming sense of love in the hall, surrounding the dads and grandfathers, which was an honour to witness and facilitate.

After the Mass, our senior Hospitality students hosted a wonderful morning tea in the library, where many laughs were shared and memories made.

We are truly blessed to be in a position to host such meaningful celebrations for our parents and community. A heartfelt thanks to everyone who assisted, especially Fr Chris Eaton, all the boys who read, Miss Bridget Cusack for her support and organisation, and to Mr. Riethmuller and Mr. Hartley for the wonderful morning tea.
