St Greg’s Confirmation Retreat: A Youth Ministry Experience
Our Year 9 and 10 Youth Ministry class recently facilitated a Confirmation retreat at St Greg’s in Queanbeyan. This has been a long-standing tradition in our Youth Ministry course and forges great relationships, which often continue into the new year, with many boys from St Greg’s choosing to come to St Edmund’s in Year 7.
This year was the second time we co-facilitated with Merici College. The experience was collaborative and vibrant, as both Merici and St Edmund’s worked together in the preceding weeks to assist in the preparation.
Our boys delivered key messages about the Sacrament of Confirmation, the significance of the Saints, and how we can best use the gifts of the Holy Spirit. They were extremely well-prepared and confidently delivered their sessions on the day. The feedback from St Greg’s was overwhelmingly positive, praising the boys for their meaningful interactions with the students, both in the small groups and during their break time, where they played sports and engaged with the younger students.
Our Youth Ministry students exemplified leadership in their small groups and were true role models of peer-to-peer ministry. Our Senior Youth Ministry team also assisted on the day, which was invaluable. A special thanks must go to Mr. Joachim Fatiaki and Hamish Chapman for their help on the day!
We look forward to hosting more events at St Greg’s and in our own Sacramental program in the future.
