Captain’s Corner – A Big Week 2 of Term 2

As we enter week 3 of term 2, we have already had some big events. In week 2 the boys were lucky enough to participate in an ANZAC day assembly where we remembered and honoured those who have served for the Australia and New Zealand Army Corps. The assembly ran smoothly and finished with the traditional minute of silence, last post and the proud singing of our national anthem.

This week the College also opened its doors to some new and prospective boys and parents. During the week we had an ‘Experience Eddies Day’ where some young men got the chance to try out what it’s like to be an eddies boy for the day. On Saturday we continued on with this display of the College with our annual Eddies Open Day, where parents got the opportunity to walk around the school with their boys and look at the facilities, meet some teachers and even try out some freshly cooked food from the hospitality department. Both the events were a hit, with plenty of boy’s ecstatic to start their Eddies journey and parents excited to join the Eddies community.

Finally, on Saturday we topped off the festivities as the winter sports entered their round 1 games. The rugby boys had a big day of matches against Daramalan and the Gungahlin Eagles filling up all of our ovals and the soccer boys had games against a number of teams around Canberra. There were ups and downs for all the teams, but our senior boys lead from the front with our First XV managing to start the season off on a great note with a 44-12 win over Daramalan and our First XI followed suit with a whopping 7-2 win over Monaro.

The week was filled with plenty of events, however, it’s only a start for the boys as we prepare for an even more action packed next few weeks. Especially looking forward to the Founder’s Day Mass on Wednesday followed by the always wonderful Mother’s Day Mass on Thursday, the Matt Giteau Cup on Friday, NAPLAN in week 4 and the College Cabaret in only a matter of weeks.
