The end of the school year is fast upon us and the warmer weather signals the end is near for our Year 12s as they begin the final chapter in their journey as an Eddies boy.
This important occasion will be celebrated and marked in several ways beginning with the House farewells 14 November. These are significant and important events as they give the younger boys in each house the chance to say goodbye to the men who have led them with such distinction throughout the year. This begins the official rites of passage which culminates in the Year 12 graduation day on Friday 30 November. This is a huge day in the school calendar for the whole community and is filled with a mass, assembly and a dinner with parents and teachers in the evening.
After this, their official schooling is done and just like fledgelings emerging from the nest for the first time, these young men will too make their first steps into the world as adults in our society. Perhaps the most rewarding part of being a teacher is sharing in the journey over the years and being witness to the transformation that takes place from timid little boys into confident young men who walk out of here ready to face the world.
This is a time to savour and enjoy as it only happens once. I wish all they Year 12s of 2018 all the best over the coming weeks and hope that they have the chance to reflect and look back upon their time at St Edmund’s College with fondness.
