Haydon House Happenings

After a well-rested Christmas holiday for all, Haydon House has been straight back into action for Term one. This week, all houses from years seven to ten will be attending their annual house camp from Wednesday 21 to Friday 23. Haydon House will be attending camp at Pambula Beach ran by Coastlife adventures. The students of Haydon will take part in an exciting three day camp. The students will be accommodated in modern villas on the beachfront. On the first and third day they will be divided into small groups for two team building challenges and a surf safety program at Pambula Surf Life Saving Club. On the second day the group will travel to Bournda National Park to bushwalk, kayaking, raft building and swim in the lagoon.

The goals of camps include progress about self-knowledge, character development, interpersonal skills, skill development, spiritual values, physical fitness and health, positive use of the group, positive experiences for students – such as having fun, being treated as an individual, and feeling cared for.

The outcomes of camp arise because students are away from their parents and away from television, living simply in a small group, with positive role models and in a structured and supportive environment. They have time to listen, talk, relax and reflect; in which they are learning through activities which are fun, require them to work together, and give them opportunities to make choices and to take responsibility.

In other news, Haydon house is leading the house points tally after many students being awards points for their academic achievements in Semester two last year. We are currently sitting on 141 points after we received 4 gold awards, 4 silver awards and 10 bronze awards. We will look to keep this lead with the Athletics carnival nearing and aiming to hold the Athletics shield back to back.
To top off our fantastic start to the 2018 year. Remy Tanddo of year 12 celebrated his 19th birthday on Friday, along with his tutor group and tutor Mr Richardson, close friends, teachers, Mr Zavone and even students who graduated year 12 last year who made a special visit to come and celebrate with Remy.
