After being back at school now for four weeks, students should be getting used to set routines and timetables. It is helpful if parents/carers can sight the diary each week and work with their son to help them plan upcoming homework or assignment tasks. A reminder that homework club runs each Tuesday and Wednesday with Mrs Ellem in the Junior School library from 3.30pm-4.30pm. Bookings by emailing hellem@stedmunds.act.edu.au are essential and need to be made with a day’s notice. We had our Ash Wednesday Liturgy this morning and it was good to discuss things we could take on or give up for Lent. Thank you to Ms Cusack and her liturgy assistants for this morning’s service. We are entering a time of the term where we will have regular significant events. I have outlined a few of them below.
Junior School Swimming Carnival – Friday 8 March @ Queanbeyan Pool. Please note that the program with approximate event times can be viewed on last week’s JS News.
Boys with books breakfast – we will be launching our book fair with a breakfast/reading opportunity for parents/carers and their son/s on the morning of Wednesday March 13 at 8am in the Junior School Library. Please come along and share in the joy of reading with your son (and perhaps buy some books while you are here). This invite is open to all parents/carers. We especially encourage as many Dads or other significant male role models to attend as possible. Having male role models showing an interest in reading with young men can have a profound and lasting impact and challenge certain stereotypes associated with reading. To assist us with catering, please email agray@stedmunds.act.edu.au with numbers of people attending. The Book Fair will be open Wednesday all day until 5.30pm (13 March) and until lunchtimes on Thursday (14 March and Friday (15 March). All orders are to be made online.
Junior School Assembly – Friday 15 March in the Hall at 11.30am. Please join us as we celebrate student learning and present academic awards to some of our Junior School students. There will be an opportunity for a tea/coffee and light refreshments afterwards.
Matt Giteau Cup – Friday 22 March. Please note the school is planning to take two teams to this event. Mr Fox has held trials at school during break times this week. Students will be notified if they have been selected. One Year 4 team and one combined Year 5/6 team will be selected.
Year 4 Science Day – Tuesday 26 March. Year 4 will be having a Science Day on Tuesday 26 March, Week 8. The boys will be given a Mystery Bag, with aim of the day is to complete the mystery task using the items available. Normal school clothes to be worn on the day, however the boys can change into their PE kit after the morning assembly.
