Junior School News: Week 9 Term 2, 2022

This week we celebrate much of the wonderful learning that has been happening across the Junior School at our Junior School assembly tomorrow. We will celebrate student achievement, have poetry recitals, hear our Junior School band perform, along with lots of other exciting achievements.

One achievement we will get to celebrate is by Henry Page from Year 6. Henry entered the 2022 Anzac Essay competition and has finished in the top 3 across the whole of the ACT. We will have Greg Kennett from the RSL Woden Valley sub-branch here on Thursday to announce his final position and prize. Everyone is looking forward to hearing Henry read his essay and impart his incredible historical knowledge and display his passionate support of the spirit of the ANZACs.

Please note that reports and information regarding Parent/Teacher evenings for next term will come out on Wednesday or Thursday next week (week 10). Just a reminder that this Friday (24 June) is the final day for students this term.

School Sport ACT – Congratulations to all of our students who have trialled recently for any 12/U SSACT teams. It takes a lot of courage to take the risk of attending a trial and we take our hat off to any student willing to put themselves forward for ACT selection. SSACT announce their teams on Facebook so we usually have to wait until we view their posts in relation to selection for these teams. Please let us know if we have missed recognising your son and we can do so in subsequent editions of Junior School News.

SSACT 12/U Rugby League – Congratulations to Brayden Kent, Harry Locker-Lloyd, Harry Borton (Year 7) on their selection for this team that will play against other States/Territories in Wollongong. Also, congratulations to Benji McNamara who was selected as a development player.

SSACT 12/U AFL – Congratulations to Darcy Borghouts (Year 7)

SSACT 12/U Swimming – Congratulations to Phillip MacNamara on his selection in the swimming squad that will compete against other State/Territories in Brisbane in August.

SSACT 12/U Basketball – Congratulations to Oscar Nikoloski (Shadow) who will train with the extended basketball squad.

Brumbies Primary Schools Championships – I mentioned in last week’s news that our 5/6 team had won the competition. However, I failed to mention that we had a player named Player of the Tournament. This player was Brayden Kent – congratulations Brayden!

Indoor Cricket Nationals
Byron Wright has been chosen for the u13 ACT Indoor Cricket Team travelling to the Australian Indoor Cricket National Championships played at Casey Stadium in Melbourne. The team will play other state teams from 1-9 July. We wish Byron the best of luck.

Pictured below is Byron receiving his ACT u13 indoor cricket cap from indoor cricket great, Vinesh Bennett, and ACT Rockets player, Tyler Hays.

ACT 12/U Brumbies Rugby Union Squad – Congratulations to Brayden Kent, Chance Gafatasi, Eliiott Brown (Year 7), Fatai Fenukitau, Isaac Iirilli, Oliver Haynes, Owen O’Grady, Tyrone Lauvao, Harry Locker-Lloyd and Stanley Dolvin on being selected in an extended squad that will train in the lead up to the Southern NSW Championships. It is understood that this squad may be trimmed prior to teams being selected to play for the Brumbies against other regions during the last week of the upcoming school holidays.

Bottle Recycling Drive – Our bottle drive is now completed. Well done to Year 5 who have won the competition and now have some rewards coming their way this week. Thank you to Ms Cusack for organising.
